DIGITAL BREAST TOMOSYNTHESIS
Digital Breast Tomosynthesis or “3D” mammography is a new type of digital x-ray mammogram that creates 2D and 3D-like pictures of the breasts. This tool improves the ability of mammography to detect early breast cancers and decreases the number of women “called back” for additional tests for findings that are not cancers.
Digital mammography can legally be performed only in facilities that are certified, such as the Diagnostic Breast Center.
BREAST ULTRASOUND
Breast ultrasound, also known as sonography or ultrasonography, is frequently used to evaluate breast abnormalities that are found with screening or diagnostic mammography or during a physician-performed clinical breast exam. Ultrasound allows significant freedom in obtaining images of the breast from almost any orientation. Ultrasound is excellent at imaging cysts, which are round, fluid-filled, pockets inside the breast. Additionally, ultrasound can often quickly determine if a suspicious area is in fact a cyst (almost always benign) or an increased density of solid tissue (dense mass), which may require a biopsy to determine if it is malignant (cancerous).
Dr. Kubek personally performs all of the ultrasound studies herself so that she, as the interpreting radiologist , can discuss all of the findings with each patient.
MEET THE DOCTOR
Kimberly Anne Kubek MD resides in suburban Philadelphia with her family. She started her career at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and has been in private practice for over 30 years. She is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and completed a Fellowship in Breast Imaging. Her office is a FDA Certified Mammography Facility, and it is accredited by the American College of Radiology. Dr. Kubek is a member of the Society of Breast Imaging, the Pennsylvania Radiologic Society, and she serves on the board of BreastCancer.Org.
She was voted as TOP DOCTOR in Philadelphia Magazine for Diagnostic Radiology/Mammography in 2020, 2021 and 2022. She received the Medal of Inspiration Award in 2013 from The Philadelphia Cancer Support Community.
Dr. Kubek sees approximately 7,000 women annually, but more importantly, she speaks to every patient before they leave her office. She has built her practice on the belief that the most important role that she as a physician can play is as an educator and advocate for her patients. She will see any patient with a breast concern immediately and she will arrange follow up care and surgical evaluation if necessary. Dr. Kubek personally performs all of the ultrasound studies herself so that she, as the interpreting radiologist, can discuss all of the information with each patient.
Dr. Kubek’s office is a private office with a team experienced and dedicated to breast health.
